How does it work?
You apply the treatment to your scalp once a day. It dries quickly and the whole routine takes about 30 seconds. That is all, so it fits easily into your morning or evening routine.
This treatment combines two active ingredients in one bottle. Topical finasteride locally lowers the DHT level in the scalp, the hormone that shrinks the follicles in hereditary hair loss. Minoxidil works differently and targets the follicles themselves.
Because the two act at different points, they are often used together. Based on the questionnaire, our doctor assesses whether this combination fits your situation or whether a different formulation suits you better.

What is in the treatment?

Sensitive scalp or irritation?
A dry, itchy or easily irritated scalp is one of the most common reasons men stop a treatment. Often the cause is not the active ingredient but the base it is mixed in.
Propylene glycol is the most common culprit. Because our formula is compounded to order, we can also prepare a version without propylene glycol.

What is the finasteride-minoxidil combination?
A liquid treatment with two active ingredients in one bottle. Finasteride inhibits DHT, the hormone behind hereditary hair loss, while minoxidil stimulates blood flow around your follicles and extends the growth phase. The formula is compounded to order on prescription by a Dutch pharmacy to pharmaceutical standards.
What causes hair loss in men?
The most common cause is hereditary (androgenetic) hair loss. The hormone DHT gradually weakens your follicles, so hairs get thinner until they eventually stop growing. The earlier you act, the more hair you can keep.
Why combine finasteride and minoxidil?
The two actives tackle hair loss in different ways. Finasteride inhibits the cause, the production of DHT around the follicle, while minoxidil stimulates the follicles and improves blood flow. Together in one daily routine, instead of two separate products.
What is topical finasteride and how does it differ from the pill?
The difference is the route of administration. A tablet is absorbed through the digestive tract and spreads through the body via the bloodstream. Topical finasteride is applied to the scalp, where it is absorbed locally through the skin. With topical use, part of the active ingredient still reaches the bloodstream; how much depends among other things on the strength, the base and the amount applied. Which form is suitable is assessed by the doctor.
Is topical finasteride as effective as oral (the pill)?
In a randomised phase III study of 458 men, hair count increased with topical use to a comparable degree as with the tablet (Piraccini et al., JEADV 2022). Important: that study used a specific dose and a different formulation base than ours. Research outcomes do not automatically apply to other strengths or amounts. What fits your situation is assessed by the doctor.
Are there side effects?
Yes, they are possible. Locally, a dry, itchy or irritated scalp is the most common. In addition, rare systemic side effects are reported for finasteride in general, such as reduced libido or erection problems. With application to the skin, part of the active ingredient is still absorbed into the bloodstream, so these side effects cannot be ruled out. The risks are discussed with you before you start.
Can my hair look worse at first?
In the first weeks there can temporarily be some extra shedding, mainly from minoxidil. This is normal and usually means the treatment is taking effect: old hairs make way for new ones. Keep going. In doubt? Discuss it with your doctor.
How long before I see results?
Hair grows slowly. Most men see the first change after about 3 to 6 months, with a fuller impression around 12 months. Daily and consistent use is important.
How do I apply it?
Once a day, apply the indicated amount to a clean, dry scalp on the areas where your hair is thinning. Let it absorb, do not rinse, and wash your hands afterwards. The exact instructions are on your bottle and are discussed with the doctor.
Do I need a prescription, and how does the consultation work?
Yes. Finasteride and minoxidil in this formulation are prescription-only. You first complete our online hair check, which takes a few minutes. Dermatologist prof. dr. Who is it (not) suitable for?
The treatment is intended for adult men with hereditary hair loss. Finasteride is not suitable for women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, and not for minors. Dermatologist prof. dr. Janmohamed assesses at intake whether the treatment is suitable for you.
How do delivery and the subscription work?
You automatically receive a new bottle every 3 months, exactly enough for the next period. You pay securely online and your bottle is delivered in neutral packaging. You never run out and never have to arrange a repeat prescription.
Can I just stop?
